"Remembering my father always brings a glow to my mind: his creativity, optimism, humor, his serious side and his earthliness, and his childlike curiosity. He was a vegetarian on moral grounds. He was fascinated by the sounds  of birds and their freedom of movement. Nature and earth were equally important; the growth, nourishment and beauty they produced; the seed and renewal promising life everlasting. His mind was always active, he rarely slept more than three or four hours day or night, waking with fresh ideas and going directly to his paint, wood, stone or pen. Mostly I remember his favorite expression, "My day wasn't wasted, I learned something new."

Ida Rothbort  (daughter of Samuel Rothbort)
